January 3rd, Two-Thousand-and-Something
I just got back to town
So cue the routine depression
And count the days ‘til my return
I’m a country’s length away from my home
In my adoptive land
Though clear across the signal goes
The connection’s bad
When an interloper comes and finds love
Then turns his head around
To see his home advancing on
He wants to bridge that gap somehow
I’m squinting to look and I’m stretching to wave
But like my memories,
You’re getting smaller and smaller
And smaller each day
We will be taxiing for the next few minutes, please remain seated with your seatbelts fastened and all of your carryon items stowed. Please ensure you have all of your personal belongings and take care when opening overhead departments as the contents may have shifted during the flight. You are now free to use mobile phones and small electronic devices in the transmitting mode, however, large electronic devices must remain off and stowed at this time.

The new year came and with it, the same
Thoughts as any year
Resolve to prove my worth in song
Resolve to get back on a stage
I’d shout to the ceiling and tear at the blinds
To stay within your heart
If I can tiptoe past the fear
And brush the cobwebs from this old guitar
Thank you for flying with us today, we’ve enjoyed having you on board.
