Bobby let the sunlight in and it spilled across the floor
And it flowed across the dusty tile and it climbed up the back wall
Next to the cigarette machines where the liquor’s neatly stored
Reflected off the bottles there like a boozy mirror ball
And it pulls
With his body shielded by the door, well, he poked his head just so
Ready with his shoulder tight and primed to throw his weight into the door
In that old familiar stance, should his fear go unopposed
But today a little braver, and braver still than days before
And it pulls
Little by little
His eyes now open wide and his pupils small in size
And his lenses stretched and squeezed ’til their focus was just right
Saw the grass that lined the busy street was a billiard-table green
And the sky was all the colors of a television screen
And it pulls
Then Bobby stepped a cautious foot past the threshold daring him
Now into the vibrant wilderness, now into the violent wind
That barreled down and swirled about like all 4 horsemen galloping
His arms they folded over and in their crooks he crouched there, hiding
And it pulls
Little by little
“Oh no no no no no no no,” he cried
“Oh no this isn’t what I bargained for
I’m not crazy, I’m not crazy; maybe just a little unsure”
And he slunk back inside
And threw his weight into the door
And it pulls
Little by little
“Daylight, daylight let me love you
Little by little”
“Daylight, daylight let me love you
Little by little”
And softly in the night, in darkness by the door
You can find him mopping up the sunlight that had spilled across the floor
